Roger, have to say that I have been doing this almost all of my life. Opening doors for elderly people, stopping my car to let someone out into heavy traffic, helping someone older unload their packages at the grocery store, always saying thank you with a smile to wait staff, cashiers, etc. It has always made me feel good and I can tell by the smile that I get back that others enjoy it as well! Usually the only ones that will not respond are the toll booth toll takers. I always smile and thank them for taking my money but never get so much as a smirk. I guess they either must really hate their jobs or are just hired for their known grumpiness.

Roger, this was lovely. I totally agree with the Superintendent. But it's amazing to me that people everywhere don't already do this. I can not NOT smile at people, or offer to help ... and every time I do, it makes my day even more special. It's free happiness. Wanna be happy? Go out and smile! Start some ripples of joy!!
