FAQ

Do I really need a coach?

Well, by the fact that you're reading this website and have found your way to my FAQ page, I'm guessing... call me crazy... that there is something you want to change, or you wouldn't be here.  Maybe it is time to get some support? Let’s talk.

What are some possible coaching outcomes?

It depends on the person, and nothing is a guarantee, but some common outcomes can include:

  • More passionate projects out there in the world
  • More focus
  • Less overwhelm
  • More follow through
  • Less imposter syndrome and more confidence
  • More productivity (still busy, but doing things you love and that matter)
  • More completions
  • More satisfaction
  • More self-compassion

Can coaching help with procrastination?

Maybe, but we'll have to get back to you on that one. Just kidding! Of course coaching can help with procrastination. Your coach can help you set goals, create a plan of action, and hold you accountable for following through. So stop putting it off and sign up for coaching already!

Will coaching make me smarter?

Well, we can't guarantee that coaching will make you a certified genius, but it can certainly help you maximize your potential and improve your performance in various areas of your life. Who knows, you might even impress your friends with your newfound knowledge of productivity hacks.

What’s the coaching investment?

Well, it's not exactly a timeshare in Maui, but coaching does come with a cost. Think of it as an investment in yourself, kind of like buying a really expensive latte that makes you feel good for a little while, except coaching lasts a lot longer.

How long does coaching take?

What's the hurry?  Seriously, It depends on your individual goals and needs, but I typically work  with clients for a minimum of six months or longer (some stay for years because they love the support). Think of it like a relationship, except you're not getting into any awkward conversations about where you see this going and if we want kids.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I sure do! Just slide the scale all the way to the right and you'll get premium, top-notch coaching. Kidding, kidding. I offer a few coaching spots that are “reduced fee spots.” But first we need to see if coaching is right for you and if we are a match… then we can discuss details.

What if we get a month in and we realize it isn’t a good fit?

No worries, I won't take it personally. If you're not feeling the coaching relationship, we'll work with you to find a coach that's a better fit.

You crack jokes on this site, can you be serious?

Yes. (<- SEE!!!)

Do you guarantee results?

If I did, I'd be like those late-night infomercials selling miracle weight loss products. I can't guarantee results, but I can guarantee that I’ll work my butt off to help you understand your ADHD and work toward your goals.

You mention Positive Psychology.  What is that, the yellow smiley face?

Close, but not quite. Positive Psychology is the science of happiness and well-being. It is about a balance between the positive and negative, not about toxic happiness.  It is SUPER important for artists and creative people… I will tell you why when you hire me. ?  Think of it as the opposite of Eeyore's worldview.

What are your credentials?

I've got more letters after my name than a bowl of alphabet soup. Kidding. But seriously, I've got some pretty impressive credentials (if I do say so myself... and I do) and years of experience helping artists love their life, follow through on projects, and get their work into the world!. But here are some of the details...

  • For starters 22+ years as a professional coach.
  • Two Coaching Credentials.
  • Hundreds and hundreds of hours of coach training
  • A masters degree from U Penn in Positive Psychology (. (oooh..smell me!)
  • …and I have trained and mentored literally thousands of coaches at the ADD Coach Academy.

But enough about me, what do you think of me?

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Well, for starters, I DO NOT make you lie on a couch. Therapy is like looking backwards in time to understand why you are the way you are and then heal you, while coaching is like looking forward to figure out how you can improve, achieve your goals, and live a life you love. Therapy tends to focus on the past and healing emotional wounds, while coaching is about creating a vision for the future and developing practical strategies to help you get there. A therapist will heal what’s broken.  Coaching helps you win the game.

What is the difference between coaching and consulting?

Consulting is like hiring an expert to give you advice and boss you around on a specific problem. Coaching is like hiring a personal trainer except, I don't make you pick up and put down heavy things.  Instead we collaborate to help you identify what you really, really want, identify what is getting in the way, support you to  develop the skills you need to tackle that and any problem, and live a great life. It is way more fun than being super bossy.

Do you tell me what to do?

I’m not not your parent (unless you want me to be, in which case I can totally ground you). I'll work with you to understand your artistic calling, develop strategies to move in that direction, and find or create tools that work for you... but ultimately, you're in charge.

Can I do coaching and therapy at the same time?

Yes, and many do.  It really depends on you and what your needs are. That would be a conversation we would have together in conjunction with your therapist.

Will you call me on my shit?

If that's what you need, you betcha!  I'll call you out faster than an umpire at a baseball game. But I'll do it in a supportive way.

"Roger is an amazing coach. He has shifted me in many areas of my life. His joie de vivre is contagious. His intuition is always spot on and his directness challenges me. I always come away from our sessions energized and enlightened. As a coach I have grown by working with him, even though he is not technically my mentor coach. It is amazing how much you can learn as a coach by being coached by such a great coach. Thanks Roger, you inspire me.”
